During the
seven-year period when he was nicknamed Jubilee Kumar, actor Rajendra Kumar had
some superb tracks picturised on him.
Most of them have been covered in my blogs on the music of Hindi films released in the 1950s and between 1960 and 1968.
But one of them, which I hadn’t heard before, was Tum Roothi Raho, from Aas Ka Panchhi (1961).
While Mohammed Rafi was Kumar’s preferred voice, this track was rendered by Mukesh, who was joined behind the microphone by Lata Mangeshkar.
It was penned by Hasrat Jaipuri, and composed by Shankar Jaikishan.
