Mukesh, the gentleman, sang it

My blog on the music of Hindi films released between 1960 and 1968 features posts on a couple of tracks from Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai, which released in 1960.

When I was writing them, I hadn’t heard Mera Naam Raju.

It was three minutes and 10 seconds long.

There’s no two ways about that the fact that Mukesh Chand Mathur, who rendered the song, was a gentleman.

Although Raju’s gharana (lineage) was anaam (unknown), the others who collaborated on this track certainly weren’t – it was penned by Shailendra, and composed by Shankar Jaikshan.
