Ms Mangeshkar’s solo was long

Mother India, which released in 1957, wasn’t merely an epic.

It was, in fact, a throwback to the era when the country’s Oscar obsession hadn’t even begun, and more importantly, the focus was on quality and not on quantity.

But one song on the film’s soundtrack stood out as much for its length as it did for its superb rendition.

The track in question was Nagari Nagari Dware Dware. It was seven minutes and 29 seconds long.

No prizes for guessing that Lata Mangeshkar sang it.

Shakeel Badayuni penned the song, which Naushad Ali composed.
